The black asphalt scolded our unprotected childish feet. Blisters, scratches, and burns told stories of when we rebelled.
Our attention craved minds, seek the approval of others. Adventures were the key, to every heart bound friendship.
Arizona was bitter and scornful. The sun’s rays penetrated our bare, un-sun-screened skin. Tumble weed, dirt, and mucky waters paraded the fences.
We mindlessly wondered, no adults- Just a few witty friends, exploring vast lands of opportunity.
Others still seemed to be unlike me; guarded. Kept from reality, secured from the dangers that lurked in the eerie streets.
Sidekicks by Alexis Brown
They tend to put others before them, within an open heart it seems. But yet, they are still seen as invisible.
Though we praise and say we love them, our own country denies full cooperation. Limited pay for a sidekick, whose only hero is his country.
Sadly this is reality, and our good soldiers don’t have immunity with their lives.
All that’s there is a soul. Burned deep with unimaginable thoughts. And we feel for them.
No pictures can do it justice. The battle field is bloody and the heart is frozen in time, Remaining in debt to those we’ve lost.
Alexis Brown's Poetry
Alexis Brown was born January 29, 1997, in Phoenix, Arizona. In her childhood years, she moved to Kenny Lake, Alaska, where she became the person she is today. Alexis has three brothers, and several pets throughout the years. Sports and recreational activities are what occupy most of Alexis’s time. When told to write a poem, she does what she has to and creates a masterpiece. Though writing poetry has not been her lifelong dream, she still writes poems of many genres for class assignments. Mystical and depressing poems would have to be Alexis’s favorite type to read and recite. She really doesn’t have a best poem because most of what she writes is outstanding. As a poet, Alexis strives to make her reader believe in what she writes. Some day she hopes to improve her writing and possibly publish a poem to hawknews.org.
