To change the world you just need small, powerless you. It might surprise you how one tiny act of kindness can change a person’s life. A smile can encourage someone to apply for law school. A helping hand can lift another out of depression. To make it simple, the equation is: an open heart + willing attitude = a major difference. The truth is, you don’t make a difference in the world by accomplishing something big; you make a difference by giving of yourself.
For example, a lot of my readers knew Dorris Eames. She recently passed away, but her beautiful heart and sweet memory hasn’t. She accepted people into her house and her heart with joy, not leaving anyone out. She gave of herself and made a huge difference in my life, and many others.
People wonder all time whether or not the world needs to be changed. To be honest, that is a ridiculous thing to even think. The crime, violence, the corrupt governments, the debts, I could go on and on about the bad things in the world. But, the real question is, how you change the world. I have narrowed it down to three simple steps. The steps may be plain and simple, but they are extremely hard.
Step 1: Love your neighbors as you love yourself. You may be saying “oh, the golden rule.” But think about it, if everyone did this the world would be very different.
Step 2: Make a difference. There are small ways you can volunteer all over the place. You don’t need to win the Nobel Peace Prize; you just need to show others you care.
Step 3: Be a gift. You don’t need to wrap yourself up in wrapping paper and send yourself via airmail. You just need to give yourself by donating your time, your money, and your heart to people who need it.
Making a change in the world is hard, but the rewards are endless. The rewards may not be apparent, or even worth anything to you. They may be as simple as a little girl’s smile, or a thank you note. But it’s not the gift that counts, it’s the reason the gift was given.
Thought of the Day: What in your life can you change that will affect someone else’s life for the better, and make a positive change in you?
